Like the last green in the painter’s pail
are these leaves; dry, dull, rough
behind the blue blossoms, a blue not borne
but reflected from above.
A reflection, both exact and approximate,
a desire, soon to be shed,
as old, blue-lined paper
fades yellow, then violet and grey;
Fades like an apron,
unworn,
of no use anymore.
In this do you feel the shortness of Life?
But suddenly blue shines new
in one blossom,
and you see the blue hue
drunk with green joy.
A rare Rilke poem ending with optimism — resurrection and connection — a flower drunk with joy!

Observing, photographing, and painting frogs is a lifelong pleasure for me. Maybe their part in the fairytales during my childhood, maybe their feature of transformation. I don't know it exactly. But I think they like me too, because we've had some in our garden for years.

Ich habe unsere Gartenkröte wieder entdeckt und festgestellt, dass ich zwar schon einige Frösche gemalt habe, aber noch nie eine Kröte. An diesem ersten noch herrlich warmen Herbsttag ist es einfach wunderbar noch draußen arbeiten zu können.
Ich habe ohne jede Vorzeichnung mit dem Auge begonnen und dann langsam die Kröte und ihre Umgebung drumherum aufgebaut.
I rediscovered our garden toad and realized that although I have painted a few frogs, I have never painted a toad. On this first, still lovely warm autumn day, it is simply wonderful to work outside.
I started with the eye without any preliminary drawing and then slowly built up the toad and its surroundings around it.

"Simple Things" is a school work area at Jean Haines Online Art School www.watercolorinspiration.com and the actual challenge is painting just two simple cauliflower leaves. It's an amazing exercise, with so many structures and colors, so many possibilities for the light. Some of my vegetarian models have gotten a bit old because I can't keep up with cooking for all that painting. But the beauty of the withered leaves just inspired me to wilt Jean's wonderfully fresh cauliflower leaves. Another candidate for my Veggie Series

A brand new candidate for my Veggie Series inspired by the "vegetable month" at Jean Haines's online Art School www.watercolourinspiration.com and what a!! Cauliflower might be the most versatile vegetable. It is a real all-rounder when it comes to versatility in preparation. Anything goes, from Mexican to Indonesian. Youn can roast it, steam it, grill it like a steak, puree it like mashed potatoes, or grate it and eat it like rice. Cauliflower is a whole lot more than just a side dish, but is also great for easy meal prep and exactly what we need to carry us through a busy week.

The changing colors of fading hydrangeas are pure autumn poetry for me and every autumn I'm inspired to transform some of their verses into a watercolor. Painting on canvas is something I really love too, it opens a lot of new possibilities and ways and let me grow as an artist. Inspired by www.watercolourinspiration.com of Jean Haines I use a little bit Aqua Ground from Schmincke and a hint of gold. It looks so amazing that I took some macro shots to show you the effects.

The near Harz Mountains region has a lot of amazing beech forests and during autumn it's the pure joy to visit them. Especially in the morning when the fog is still between the colored tree, the ground is covered by fallen leaves and the wood has this fairytale touch.
