As a gift for myself, I'm spending one month at Jean Haines Online Art School www.watercolourinspiration.com, and her newest online tutorial "Wacky Pheasant" inspired me to create this painting.

Die drei Spatzen
In einem leeren Haselstrauch,
da sitzen drei Spatzen, Bauch an Bauch.

One of the many memories of my beloved grandparents is the story of when my grandpa brought a bullfinch in a birdcage into grandma's kitchen. I've never seen this beautiful bird so close, but at the same time, I begged Grandpa to set this wonderful wild animal free again. And so we did it together in our garden.

Great Lessons!

The lighthouse Westerhever is a well-known lighthouse in Germany, but for me, it is a symbol of wonderful relaxed days at St. Peter-Ording and the beautiful seashore there. For years I've painted it during the seasons a thousand times and surely more will follow.

The background wash was done as a color testing piece for "Winter has come!" and I was very pleased with it. Today I'd a second look at it and I discovered an owl waiting for me there.

Here in Lower Saxony, we are very fortunate to have unique and varied landscapes, from the Harz mountains to the North Sea coast, everything is there. And especially in my immediate vicinity, the Lueneburg Heath with its wide heath and moor areas, there are some almost extinct animal species that you can observe with your own eyes or camera.
While the black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) was still native too many heath and moor areas in Lower Saxony until the 1970s, the bird, which belongs to the grouse family, has almost completely disappeared from the state today.
Only in the Lueneburg Heath is there a residual population of the black grouse, which has stabilized in recent years due to intensive protection and care measures, but is now declining again. At the last count in 2022, only 39 black grouse were found. It is imperative to protect this stock.
The black grouse is a small relative of the capercaillie. While the capercaillie is typical of large natural forest areas, the black grouse lives in open landscapes such as moors and heaths.
Only through the preservation of the open heathland and the special consideration of the visitors, by observing the rules on the way, will it be possible to preserve these animals of this bird species, which are threatened with extinction.

In certain parts of Asia, there was a mortal known by the name of Quan Yin. The peacock is associated with Quan Yin and her great qualities of charity, compassion, integrity, and good faith towards her fellow man. Quan Yin was very well known because she could become immortal. However, she deflected herself to stay mortal for humanity's greater good and assist with their personal and religious growth.
