That's my last painting in 2020 and Dears, what a year!  It
had an impact on all of our lives and I'm very glad that I could paint, write and photography in my free time and so create a space for me to forget the world around me and just enjoy the creative process.

---*---

Enjoy the last days of this strange year wherever you can. I would like to thank each and every one of you for all your loyalty, attention, and care over the past 12 years here in my painting blog. I can hardly believe the number myself and it has become my home and memory but above all the beginning of many great friendships, experiences on painting trips, and in the many past masterclasses.

I sincerely wish you a good start into a positive 2021

Ever yours,

Isabella

Sing hey! Sing hey!
For Christmas Day;
Twine mistletoe and holly.
For a friendship glows

In winter snows,
And so let's all be jolly!
At Christmas play and make good cheer,
For Christmas comes but once a year

The Christmas Fairy

The Christmas fairy Distella
has silver-white hair,
decorated with a thousand stars
so beautiful, hard to imagine!

A dress from finest silk
floats around her like a dream
red, green in Christmas colors,
gold stars embroidered on the hem.

She sends in children's nights
her laughing like Christmas bells
with fairy hands, she scares away
the fear of evil dragons.

She loves dream to in the daytime
in the green of the Advent wreath
and practices with her sisters
the spin of the Christmas dance.

Her hair is flying and seesawing
that sparkles spray around
her hands, the feet swirl,
another leap, very daring.

The baubles on the tree
sway dangerously here and there.
The fairies giggle softly,
That's right, the momentum is here.

If now you see without reason
a motion in the Christmas tree,
you have maybe discovered
the fairies roundelay.

"Santa Hats" is a new challenge at Jean Haines's Online Art School www.watercolourinspiration.com and since my early childhood, I love the poem

" Die Weihanchtsmaus" by James Krüss.

Ein andres Mal verschwand sogar das Marzipan von Peter;

Doch sag ich nichts, was jemand kränkt! Das könnte euch so passen!
Was man von Weihnachtsmäusen denkt, bleibt jedem überlassen.

and a lovely translation by Anonymus

The Christmas mouse is rare I hear, the learned do agree.
For only once upon the year its tracks we come to see.

Neither traps nor well-spread bait will catch the clever mouse.
A skein of yarn won’t suffocate, Though spread throughout the house.

Throughout the year the mouse we say is a friend to humankind.
But it leaves its hole on Christmas day to put us in a bind.

It came to pass that from the Christmas cake that Mother had stashed away,
The very best part of all she’d baked was gone on Christmas day.

Then everyone proclaimed aloud: “I’m not the one who took it!
Last night, I'm sure, both sly and proud 'twas the Christmas mouse who snook it.”

Another time the marzipan of Peter's disappeared.
Surprisingly and without plan It never reappeared.

Then Christian shouted out aloud: “I’m not the one who took it!
Last night, I'm sure, both sly and proud ‘twas the Christmas mouse who snook it.”

A third time from the Christmas tree holding festive decorations
A meringue Santa seemed to flee with other delectations.

Then Nelly shouted out aloud: “I’m not the one who took it!
Last night, I'm sure, both sly and proud ‘twas the Christmas mouse who snook it.”

And Ernst and Hans and Dad all shouted “What a plague this holiday!”
“The evil mouse is back!” they pouted, “and right on Christmas day!”

Only Mother did not make a complaint, but spoke out clear and true:
“Once the sweets have been displaced, the mouse will depart too."

And lo, when the sweets were eaten and the tree laid bare,
they looked about perplexed and beaten: The mouse just wasn’t there.

So when they say that at Fränzchen’s house And also at dear Liesl’s
There really is no Christmas mouse - I do doubt that a little.

But I’m not one to author slights even if you might groan,
Whate’er you think of Christmas mice is up to you alone.

I wasn't satisfied with this version and have darkened the painting. Now I'm unsure if this was the right decision. Whatever, I've learned a lot and this is an exercise for a larger version so everything is okay.
