Altes Kaminstück

Draußen ziehen weiße Flocken

Durch die Nacht, der Sturm ist laut;

Hier im Stübchen ist es trocken,

Warm und einsam, stillvertraut.

Sinnend sitz ich auf dem Sessel,

An dem knisternden Kamin,

Kochend summt der Wasserkessel

Längst verklungne Melodien.

Und ein Kätzchen sitzt daneben,

Wärmt die Pfötchen an der Glut;

Und die Flammen schweben, weben,

Wundersam wird mir zumut'.

Dämmernd kommt heraufgestiegen

Manche längst vergeßne Zeit,

Wie mit bunten Maskenzügen

Und verblichner Herrlichkeit.

Schöne Fraun, mit kluger Miene,

Winken süßgeheimnisvoll,

Und dazwischen Harlekine

Springen, lachen, lustigtoll.

Ferne grüßen Marmorgötter,

Traumhaft neben ihnen stehn

Märchenblumen, deren Blätter

In dem Mondenlichte wehn.

Wackelnd kommt herbeigeschwommen

Manches alte Zauberschloß;

Hintendrein geritten kommen

Blanke Ritter, Knappentroß.

Und das alles zieht vorüber,

Schattenhastig übereilt –

Ach! da kocht der Kessel über,

Und das nasse Kätzchen heult.

It was an experiment and I was really surprised at how well it worked. The golden primer is a gorgeous decision for Christmas paintings.

I love oldtimers and I'm sure Santa loves them too and maybe there're some days when Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen are so tired from flying in one night around the whole world that they need a little rest and Santa must take his Dodge pickup.

It's Christmas time at Jean Haines's Online Art School www.watercolourinspiration.com and to come into the right mood we start with Santa Dogs in a row. My composition had a free space on the left side and so I decided to let my boys singing under a Christmas tree.

... das gleiche Motive habe ich vor vielen Jahren (1996) schon einmal gemalt. Da es mir besonders gut gefällt, wollte ich ausprobieren, wie ich es heute umsetze. Ich hoffe, dass es euch die aktuelle Version genauso gut gefällt, wie mir.
