Snowy Manhattan
This one is my submission for #80 IN AND OUT OF FOCUS Challenge at @aligator_watercolor_community.
The Flatiron Building: Since its introduction as one of New York City’s first skyscrapers in 1902, the Flatiron has been a quintessential New York City icon that garners immediate recognition, beloved by both local New Yorkers and visitors alike. Floating above the intersection of two of New York City’s most famous streets, Fifth Avenue and Broadway, the Flatiron anchors its eponymous district. Its defining triangular shape emphasizes the building’s unique positioning while oversized windows frame unobstructed views in all directions that span the tree tops of Madison Square Park to the skylines of Downtown. Now, the Flatiron is poised to undergo a renovation that will preserve its historic exterior and simultaneously reconfigure its interior to meet 21st Century demands.

For my work, I decided on the western facade of the castle, which is rarely or not at all shown in paintings. This is completely hidden behind trees in summer and you can hardly see the castle. But in winter, and especially when there is snow, the moated castle character of the facility comes into its own. Celle Castle was built around 980 as a fortified tower with the attributes of a water castle.
Otto the Strict continued developing the building in 1292. Remnants of this era are the cellar vault and the lower floors of the watch tower. The current Celle Castle has its first documented mentioning as “Castrum Celle” in 1315. ... for more information: Celle Castle

Spring arrives in Manhattan
Nearly ten years ago I've had a gorgeous stay during springtime in NYC and since this time I'm lost in love with this gorgeous city. We visited the MoMA and I was thrilled about the number of full blooming trees at 53rd street West NYC. I took many photographs but even without them, I would never forget the marvelous atmosphere.

What could be more beautiful than snow in the first December weeks? Suddenly it's so easy to get into the mood of Christmas.

The glowing colors of November, even when the weather is grey, foggy, and cold such are a wonderful inspiration. And painting landscapes in a loose style is something I really adore.

Painting buildings without a primary sketch was a lesson at Jean Haines's online art school www.watercolourinspiration.com. For me really a great experience and I love very much doing this special loose genre.

For ages, I want to paint this awesome location and this is my first attempt at this extraordinary place. It's done as a loose watercolor without any drawing.
