I miss painting animals and today we had the first snow of the young year. So it's logical to paint some polar bears with the wonderful super granulation colors by Schmincke and again with a limited palette of only three colors.

My contribution to @aligator_watercolor_community  challenge #77: FAVORITE OF 2022. That was an easy decision: it must be a #portrait, it must be painted with Opera Pink and Aussie Red Gold, surely my 2022 most loved colors and it must be done on #Aquabord. The background wash was done as a color testing piece for "Winter has come!" and I was very pleased with it. Today I'd a second look at it and I discovered an owl waiting for me there.

For my work, I decided on the western facade of the castle, which is rarely or not at all shown in paintings. This is completely hidden behind trees in summer and you can hardly see the castle. But in winter, and especially when there is snow, the moated castle character of the facility comes into its own. Celle Castle was built around 980 as a fortified tower with the attributes of a water castle.

 Otto the Strict continued developing the building in 1292. Remnants of this era are the cellar vault and the lower floors of the watch tower. The current Celle Castle has its first documented mentioning as “Castrum Celle” in 1315. ... for more information: Celle Castle
