During our Christmas family visit, my over 90 years old daddy talked about the Christmas times long ago, when he wents in the woods and brought a Christmas tree at home, cut by himself, in a fir wood full of snow and silence.

I've discovered a new recipe for a wonderful Christmas cake. It's very yummy filled with a delicious cream and surrounded by gingerbread men. And so very decorative, isn't it. 
So it's my third cake painting (first you can find here Kuchen/cake). Maybe it's the start of a new series.

Nun kann ich es offiziell posten, dieser "Kleine grüne Kaktus" ist mein @Wichtelzauberei2019 Geschenk für die @Josephine.Nähmaschine auf Instagram. Sie hat mir nämlich erzählt, dass sie Blumenbilder und besonders Sukkulenten mag. Ich hoffe, dass sie viel Freude mit diesem sehr pflegeleichten Gesellen hat. 

Now I can post it officially, this "Little Green Cactus" is my @Wichtelzauberei2019 present for @JosephineNähmaschine on Instagram. She told me that she likes flower pictures and especially succulents. So I hope that she has a lot of fun with this very easy-going fellow.

Otters are not only incredibly cute, no, they are also terrific intelligent! In addition to monkeys, crows and dolphins, they are one of the few species of animals that produce tools and use them specifically. So they use stones on their belly as an anvil to crack on it shells or crabs.

Years ago I've spent a gorgeous time at Cornwall and since these days I wish I could live there forever. The longing was always a great impulse for painting for me, since my very first steps with watercolor, also years ago. This one was one for my sky- and cloud exercises.

For many years, I have accumulated an infinite number of ideas, sketches, and photographs and I will try to transform more of them into watercolors. This is another watercolor after my own photography of the lakes Meissendorf, Germany during the wonderful watercolor workshop with Thomas Schaller at Chicago. For years I thought about painting this motive and Thom created such a great demo with a "bull eye" start for a soft background wash, that I decided immediately to select this as my motive. Thoms demo you can find in the collage below.

I started painting this view of one of my own photographs from the Red Haubarg Schleswig Holstein, Germany during the wonderful watercolor workshop with Thomas Schaller at Chicago, perfectly organized by Ingrid Albrecht. So much learned about picking the right object, composition, position of light and color choice. So all I need is time and practice to paint all the views and stories who I carry inside my head. 

***A Haubarg, rarely also Hauberg, is the typical farmhouse of the Eiderstedt peninsula on the northwest coast of Germany and is a type of Gulf house. It emerged in the late 16th century when West Frisian immigrants brought with them the Gulf type of farm building and it was to continue to be used until the late 19th century as a farmhouse. In the Netherlands these houses are called stolpboerderij.

The word "Haubarg" means a place for piling or stacking hay (see hooiberg). As a byre-dwelling, man and animal lived for centuries in haubargs under one roof, albeit in separate rooms. www.wikipedia

And one more paper test with CANSON HÉRITAGE this time the cold pressed version and I must say, I'm thrilled. This is so far the best for me. Easily to make soft washes and create hard edges. Perfect, absolutely perfect for me.
